Last week Donald Trump was indicted 37 times for endangering America’s national security. But also last week 2 new larger more lethal dangers to America’s national security, that were overshadowed by all the media attention devoted to the 37 Trump indictments, developed in 2 countries. Furthermore, the 2 new dangers demonstrate why Republicans can no longer creditably claim they keep America safer than the Democrats because Republican policies are the ones creating lethal dangers to America’s national security.
To be certain prosecuting a former president for endangering America’s national security for the first time in American history is a headline noteworthy event, and prosecuting anyone including an ex-president for mishandling or exposing America’s national security secrets is a must-do requirement to maintain American safety and security, but unless the 37 indictments claim Donald Trump exposed or revealed national security secrets to China, Russia, North Korea, or Iran prosecuting Trump is not as important as mitigating or eliminating the 2 newest threats to America’s safety and security.
The number one most dangerous Middle Eastern threat to America’s national security is Iran. Last week in Islamic Iran billboards in its capital city of Tehran printed with Hebrew captions read: “400 seconds to Tel Aviv”. This was Iran’s announcement that it had developed a new hypersonic missile called Fattah, named after one of the 99 names of God in Islam meaning victory giver. A hypersonic missile is a weapon capable of traveling at hypersonic speed, defined as between 5 and 25 times the speed of sound or about 1 to 5 miles per second. Aside from the advertised threat to Israel’s national security Iran’s new hypersonic missile is also a threat to America’s national security.
Iran’s development of a hypersonic missile means, not only is America behind China and Russia in developing and perfecting hypersonic technology, but now America is trailing its arch-enemy in the Middle East in developing hypersonic technology. If Iran has developed a hypersonic missile that can reach Israel, it’s only a matter of a short time before Iran develops a hypersonic missile capable of reaching America. And since a Republican president, Donald Trump, backed by the Republican policy of voiding the 2017 Democrat president, Barack Obama’s, Iranian 2015 nuclear deal that was preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon for 15 years, because American intelligence estimated in 2015 that Iran was already within a year of developing a nuclear weapon, the Iranian hypersonic missile that reaches America or Israel in the near future could easily have a nuclear warhead.
The second more dangerous threat to America’s national security overshadowed by the 37 Trump indictments, was announced Thursday when the Wall Street Journal reported that China has reached a secret deal, to pay billions of dollars for the right to build an electronic eavesdropping station capable of spying on America just 100 miles away from Florida in Cuba. President Joe Biden administration officials confirm that China has had a spy base in Cuba since 2019, but they deny, along with Cuban government officials, the report that China and Cuba have a deal on the eavesdropping station.
Regardless of whether or not there is a deal for a new eavesdropping station, the fact that the American government now confirms China has had a never-before-now admitted spy base in Cuba since 2019, means if there is no eavesdropping station deal between China and Cuba now it’s a safe bet there will be one in the near future. Especially since a cash-strapped Cuba can’t afford to walk away from China’s billions. An eavesdropping station would allow China to gather electronic communications from US Central Command headquarters based in Tampa, Florida, from Fort Liberty, formerly Fort Bragg, America’s largest military base which is based in North Carolina, and from other signals intelligence as far north as Washington D.C. If the eavesdropping station is built, the Chinese will use Cuba “as a beachhead for collection against the United States”, said Daniel Hoffman, a former senior CIA undercover officer.
The likely hood that China and Cuba have reached a deal for an eavesdropping station is made possible because, once again, Republicans voided a Democrat Party foreign policy initiative meant to nudge Cuba away from autocracy and bring it closer to American democracy. In June of 2017, Republican President Trump announced he was reversing what he called a “terrible and misguided deal”, with Cuba by reinstating travel and commercial restrictions eased by Democrat President Obama’s administration. Republicans reinstated the travel and commercial restrictions in an attempt to force additional concessions from the communist Cuban government. But what Republicans really did by reinstating the American restrictions was prevent Cuba from developing the most profitable natural resource it has, tourism, and made a cash-strapped Cuba 100% more vulnerable to accepting both Russia’s and China’s financial bribery to harm America’s national security.
It’s important for the rule of American law, the safety and national security of American democracy, and the 21st-century survival of American democracy that Donald Trump be held accountable for any harm or jeopardy he caused to America’s national security. But the 24/7 media coverage of the Trump classified document case implies that Trump should be held accountable at the expense of ignoring or underestimating the more dangerous threat Iran and China are to America’s national security. The threat Donald Trump posed to America’s national security has technically been eliminated because Trump no longer has access to the classified documents found illegally at his Florida Mar-a-Lago home. And fortunately, as far as we presently know, none of the people he illegally showed the classified documents to were foreign spies.
The threat Iran and China pose to America’s national security not only continues to exist but when the fact that Iran is closer than it’s ever been to creating a nuclear bomb, and China has reached a deal with Cuba for an eavesdropping station that will increase China’s ability to spy on America by a 1000%, the threat Iran and China are to America’s national security grows more dangerous every day.
The solution to Trump’s endangerment of America’s national security is the easy fix of determining what punishment for Trump is sufficient for his national security transgressions. The threats Iran, who considers America its arch-enemy and the number one threat to Iran’s existence, and China, who considers America its most dangerous competitor and the number one threat preventing China from becoming the world’s mightiest superpower, pose to America’s national security deserve the same if not more, 24/7 media attention because unlike the Trump already-eliminated-national-security-threat Iran and China national security threats are complex 24/7 realities with no easy fixes in sight.
