Having lost control of the White House, the Senate, U.S. House, and with a favorability rating below 30% in both NBC and CNN news polls, Democrats are trying to figure out how to regain the trust and faith necessary to win elections again. The first step Democrats must take to win elections again is for Democrats to accept the fact that fear of cultural retaliation is not racism.
Regardless of how historians rate the presidency of Donald John Trump his reign as President is and will always be historic, because President Trump has done something no other President has. He has been impeached as President but not removed from office twice, he was voted out of office in the 2020 election, and then he was elected again as President just 4 years later in the 2024 election. Historians will also rate how and why Democrats lost the 2024 election after winning so well in the 2020 election, the one thing they will all agree about is that Democrats either ignored or demonized the one thing President Trump did not, American White’s fear of or anxiety over cultural retaliation.
In other words, whether or not you agree with it, President Trump has provided a solution to a future reality that Democrats not only haven’t provided a solution to, but Democrats have made the mistake of demonizing the idea of developing a solution for the future reality. Democrats must address the fact that American Whites are transitioning from being the majority population in America to being the largest minority population in America, creating fear of or anxiety over potential cultural retaliation. So far Democrats have only had one response to the changing future reality in America, it’s been to imply that any American White who has fear or anxiety about changing racial demographics in America is a racist. While it’s true that 10-15% of American Whites do have racist feelings about American Whites losing their majority population status, nothing could be further from the truth for the remaining 90-85% of American Whites.
3 scientific studies of both American Whites and Canadian Whites, a study of American Whites led by Professor Maureen Craig of Duke University, a study of American Whites led by Professor Amy Krosch of Cornell University, and a study of Canadian Whites led by Professor H. Robert Outten of Trinity College, all concluded and proved that as the white population decreases and people of color population increases it creates great non-racist anxiety among both American Whites and Canadian Whites. All 3 studies demonstrate that the anxiety is not the traditional racial prejudice, of whites fearing the end of society because inferior or sub-human people of color are becoming the majority population, the 2 American studies reveal that the American White anxiety is over how a new people of color majority in America will racially treat an American White minority population.
Considering the past American history of the American White majority enslaving the American Black minority, of the American White majority locking up 120,000 American Japanese minority citizens in concentration camps during World War 2 simply because of their Japanese ancestry, of many American Jewish citizens having to change their Jewish sounding surname to avoid religious persecution and discrimination by the American White Christian majority, and the current conversations over whether reparations should be granted to American Blacks for slavery and past racial discrimination, it makes logical non-racist sense that there would be American White anxiety over how losing majority population status would impact them as a race and as individuals. Before America’s Civil Rights Movement, American history was a chronicle of the majority racial, religious, political, or the male gender group dominating the smaller racial, religious, political, or female gender group.
Professor Craig’s study had a group of American White participants read a summary from the U.S. Census Bureau projecting that American Whites would soon become a minority population. After reading this the group showed a greater preference for their white racial group, responding positively to statements like “I would rather work alongside people of my same ethnic origin”, and they felt less warm feelings toward other races. According to Craig, the results suggest that “a sense of a zero-sum competition between groups is activated,” when people hear about the rise of one group, they automatically fear it will mean a decline in their own. Considering American society’s history of treating racial, religious, and cultural minorities as not true American or 2nd class Americans, fear of cultural retaliation or racial anxiety over losing the majority population status in America is a genuine normal non-racist reaction for American Whites to experience.

Craig’s study proved that exposure to the census report caused American Whites to be more politically conservative on a variety of policies like affirmative action, immigration, defense spending, and health care reform. But most importantly the study proved that these shifts were not just limited to American Whites who believe in white supremacy, as co-author of the study Yale psychologist Professor Jennifer Richeson says “The point is that people who think of themselves as not prejudiced and liberal demonstrate these threat effects”.
The threat effect of potential racial cultural retaliation and the fear of it or anxiety over it is why, as the American White population is decreasing to the point that American Whites will no longer be the majority race in America, in 2024 immigration policy replaced the economy as the most important issue to American Whites. It’s also why many American white politicians have become obsessed with how the history of racism in America is taught in schools.
President Trump is the only one speaking to American white anxiety over how racial population change will affect American culture. Unfortunately, he has chosen to address American white anxiety over racial population change in America, by first stoking fear that the new people-of-color population majority will seek cultural retaliation by replacing or removing traditional American culture, then announcing a new government policy or issuing a non-economic executive order to address the fear e.g. President Trump first proclaims that the military has fallen prey to “woke” race initiatives which remove, replace, or hinder American Whites. He then issued an executive order mandating that a military base whose name had changed from being named in honor of a white confederate soldier, be changed again to honor a white Union soldier with the same surname as the previous white confederate soldier that the base was named for. Every new non-economic government policy announced by President Trump, every new non-economic executive order issued by President Trump, and all of his immigration policies are tailored to address American White’s fear or anxiety over cultural retaliation due to racial population change in America.
If Democrats want to start winning elections again, they too must address American White’s fear or anxiety about potential cultural retaliation due to racial population change in America. Democrat’s habit of implying racist intent by American Whites who express fear or anxiety over racial population change will not attract American white votes, it literally forces many American Whites to vote for President Trump’s stoking fear approach to racial population change, regardless of how negatively his approach impacts non-white Americans e.g. The majority of American Whites support the truthful teaching of America’s slave history in schools, colleges, and universities but because President Trump constantly reminds American Whites about the potential for financial or cultural retaliation by a new people-of-color population majority, while Democrats consistently make no attempt to assure American Whites that Democrats will not allow any financial or cultural retaliation by a new people-of-color majority, and at the same time Democrats encourage the discussion of future racial economic reparations for past racial discrimination, means those majority American Whites who support truthful history teaching, but fear or agonize over the implications of racial population change, sit silent as fear-baiting politicians pass laws prohibiting truthful history teaching.
15 to 20 years ago what most American Whites thought to be either a positive inclusive gesture or a harmless concession to minority non-Christian or 2nd class Americans, when corporate retail America stopped advertising Merry Christmas and instead started advertising Season’s Greetings, is now being described, by the religious leaders and politicians who stoke fear or anxiety over future racial population change, to be the replacement of traditional American white Christian culture and a prime example of the cultural retaliation that will happen when racial population change occurs. Democrats must do their part to assuage the fear or anxiety over potential cultural retaliation that future racial population change generates in the majority of American Whites.
Unlike most of President Trump’s solutions, Democrat’s solutions must stoke the positivity and hope of racial population change. One solution Democrats can offer, that could both stoke hope and establish a bi-partisan political effort to positively assuage American White’s fear or anxiety, is to embrace President Trump’s recent executive order designating English as the official language of the United States of America.
Currently, there is no official language of the United States of America. However, there are currently 2 indicators of American citizenship. One is an intangible indicator and the other is a tangible indicator. The intangible is the belief in and commitment to principles of democracy, and the tangible is white racial skin color. White racial skin color has been a logical non-racist tangible indicator because until 2020 American Whites were over 60% of the population, by 2030 American Whites are projected to be 55%, and by 2045 less than 50% of the American population. Once American Whites lose majority population status skin color will become obsolete as an indication of American citizenship.
Because no one skin color will be a 51% majority. America will become a true melting pot of different colored people, making any one particular skin color obsolete as a physical indicator of American citizenship. The new tangible American citizenship indicator should be a trait common to all and easily attainable by all, a common language is that trait. No one can control what race they are born to, everyone can control what language they choose to speak. In a multi-cultured multi-colored America, (E Pluribus Unum, out of many one), designating the English language as the official language of America will be the easily accessible common tangible trait that indicates American citizenship and binds all Americans together culturally.
Most importantly, for any American Whites experiencing fear or anxiety over the reality that the future non-white majority population in the one-person-one-vote-counted majority rule United States of America, will likely speak a second non-English language, and as the new majority, they would have the democracy option of considering making their non-English language the official language of America. Designating English now as America’s official language would assure American Whites that although racial demographics in America may change, cultural norms such as the language Americans speak would remain the same regardless of what race or ethnicity is in the majority.
On the signature issue that strikes at the heart of American white fear or anxiety, the signature issue that elected Donald Trump President, immigration policy, to assuage American white fear or anxiety Democrats should suggest a new floating immigration formula. The reason why American Whites were 88.6% of the American population in 1960 was because of the 1924 National Origins Act, the reason American Whites will lose majority status by 2045 is because of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965. It shifted the preferred status the National Origins Act gave to Euro-white immigrants to immigrants from the 22 countries in the Western Hemisphere. They are Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago.
The immigration formula of the Immigration and Nationality Act is responsible for creating the future racial population majority in America, by law it intentionally allows the largest amount of people who immigrate to America to be from countries south of America’s border. An affirmative act to alleviate racial population change fear or anxiety among American Whites would be to establish a new floating immigration formula. The new floating formula would change periodically what percentage of immigrants from any country in the world would be allowed to immigrate to America. The new formula could create a scenario where no race or ethnicity would ever again dominate American society by exceeding a 45% population threshold, initiating a new population demographic that forces all races and ethnicities to work with each other to accomplish anything of significance in American society.
Another way Democrats can stoke hope about racial population change, while also assuaging American white fear or anxiety over it, is to promote a new way Americans should refer to themselves. Every day Americans consciously and unconsciously engage in a practice that consistently erects barriers of separation between American citizens. The barriers of separation are erected by how Americans refer to themselves e.g. Italian American, British American, Polish American, African American or Black American, White American, etc. Putting emphasis consciously and unconsciously on what divides or distinguishes us culturally or racially from one another first as opposed to American White, American Italian, American British, American Polish, American Black, or for others American African. Putting emphasis consciously and unconsciously first on the cultural and democratic philosophical commonality that unites all Americans, American citizenship.
Democrats also must make it plain to American Whites that the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles and programs they support are not only designed to protect, enhance, and include only some people of color, but the DEI programs Democrats promote benefit American Whites as well because American Whites are people-of-color too, the white color. The purpose of DEI is not to confront or stop racism and discrimination that’s the job of the U.S. Department of Justice or the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. DEI has nothing to do with who is hired or who is fired that’s the job of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management or in the private sector a human resource manager.
The purpose of DEI is to foster an environment or create a government policy where all races, cultures, genders, religions, ages, political affiliations, and sexual orientations are both respected and included. President Trump falsely presents DEI as something designed to exclude or replace American Whites. Democrats must make it clear to American Whites that President Trump is misleading them because the ultimate goal of DEI is 100% INCLUSION of all individuals regardless of race, religion, no religion, political affiliation, sexual orientation, or age. The concept of exclusion or replacement is antithetical to the DNA of true Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Donald Trump has run 3 times to be President. He lost 1 time and won the other 2 times, the 1st time he ran and won in 2016 he received 62,984,828 votes, the 2nd time when he ran for reelection and lost he received 74,223,975 votes, and the 3rd time he was elected President again, and received 77,302,580 votes, but 2 things have been consistent in all 3 times he has run to be America’s leader. 1 Each time President Trump asked America to elect him President he consistently received more American white votes with each new election, some of his new American white votes had previously voted for Barack Obama. And 2 each time President Trump asked America to elect him President his message was the same: American Whites I am your protector against racial population change in America, only I am willing to make America great again by keeping America majority white.
While the 77,302,508 votes President Trump received in 2024 were over 3 million less than the 81,283,501 votes that elected Joe Biden in 2020, it was over 2 million more votes than the 75,017,613 Kamala Harris received in 2024, enabling President Trump to win, for the first time, a majority of the popular vote, an accomplishment not possible unless a large amount of American Whites who voted for Biden in 2020 decided to vote for Trump instead of Harris in 2024. It’s no coincidence that as each election gets closer to the 2045 year that the U.S. Census Bureau says American non-Hispanic Whites will no longer be the majority population, President Trump’s I will protect American Whites message attracts more and more American white votes.
President Trump’s latest protective appeal, to the fear or anxiety American Whites are experiencing over racial population change, is to float the idea of giving a $5,000 baby bonus to encourage dating couples to marry and have children. The President says his goal is to increase the American population. Democrats should remind American Whites that when they had control of the White House, Senate, and House they passed the American Rescue Plan Act. It increased the maximum child tax credit to $3,600 per child under 6 and $3,000 per child 17 and under. The law enabled families to receive monthly advanced tax refunds of $300/month for each child 6 and under and $250/month for each child 7-17 years old. Democrats should also remind American Whites that after Republicans won control of the House in the 2022 mid-term elections they refused to continue the new child tax credit.
Ultimately there’s one reason Democrats must address racial population change to start winning elections again, American Whites no longer trust the federal government to protect them, so there’s no way American Whites will vote to empower a political party that consistently does or says nothing to calm their fear or anxiety, over future racial population change, to lead the federal government.
Before 1964 with creation of the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906 which led to the creation of the Food and Drug Administration, the break-up of John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Company financial monopoly, the economic relief provided to American Whites during America’s Great Depression, the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) enabling middle and lower economic class American Whites to buy their first home, the G.I. Bill providing World War 2 American White veterans with low-cost mortgages to buy a home, low-interest loans to start a business or farm, one year of unemployment compensation, dedicated payments of tuition and living expenses to attend high school, college, or vocational school, and the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956 which funded the construction of a national highway road system that connected the entire contiguous United States, allowing American Whites to drive their own cars to all parts of America, American Whites had always trusted the federal government to always protect them and act in their best interest.
In 1964 with the passage of the federal Civil Rights Act, was the first time American Whites experienced the federal government flexing its authority in a way that American Whites felt did not benefit them. According to the Pew Research Center in 1963 before the new Civil Rights Act in 1964, 77% of American Whites trusted the government to protect them and act in their best interest. After the Civil Rights Act became law the federal government was legally mandated to use its regulatory authority to force American Whites, when and where necessary, to treat American people of color equally in all aspects of American life, as a result, distrust of the federal government among American Whites grew each year after 1964.
The distrust bottomed out on October 15, 1980, with only 25% of American Whites still trusting the federal government. Less than a month later on November 7, 1980, American Whites’ trust in government almost doubled rising to 40%. November 7th was 4 days after Ronald Reagan won his campaign for President of the United States by telling Americans that “government was the problem, not the solution,” which was Reagan code for, I will shut down federal affirmative action programs and stop the federal government from telling American Whites how they must treat non-white people. Those American Whites who didn’t lose trust in the federal government over the Civil Rights Act, either lost trust over the lies Democrat President Lyndon Johnson and Republican President Richard Nixon told about the Vietnam War, or lost trust after the Watergate scandal revealed massive illegal federal government activity or both.
Just because American society was intentionally designed from day 1 to place American Whites at the top of the food chain, does not mean that American Whites don’t have emotional, psychological, or social programmatic needs that should or need to be placated. American Whites are no more human or no less human than American Blacks, who after 188 years, thanks to the Civil Rights Movement, got some of the emotional, psychological, and affirmative action help American Blacks needed to feel a legitimate part of American society. In 20th century America, before the 1964 Civil Rights Act, American Blacks were both legally and spiritually denied access to the American Dream so until 1964 American Blacks felt the American Dream didn’t include them. In 21st century America American Whites, primarily due to future racial majority population change and lack of federal government trust, fear their traditional inclusion and access to the American Dream will be taken from them.
If Democrats want to win again, like President Trump, their politics and policies must acknowledge the fear of or anxiety over potential cultural retaliation the changing racial demographics are having on non-racist American Whites. But unlike President Trump’s politics and policies which evoke the negative emotional and psychological fear of cultural exclusion due to racial population change, Democrat’s politics and policies should evoke the positive emotional and psychological hope of cultural inclusion due to racial population change. Failure of Democrats to do so will mean increasing numbers of American Whites, fearing cultural retaliation, will hold their noses, suppress their misgivings over the economy, ignore what they know in their hearts to be un-American, and vote MAGA.
