2 Things Democrats Shouldn’t Do If They Win

With less than 2 months to go, Democrats are very optimistic about their chances of winning control of the U.S. House, and slightly optimistic about possibly winning control of the U.S. Senate. Regardless of whether Democrats win either the House, the Senate, or both, there are 2 things Democrats shouldn’t do first after they win.

According to a team of Cornell University political scientists, whose model has correctly predicted winners of the previous 14 congressional elections, Democrats have an 8 in 10 chances of winning the 3 additional seats they need to gain control of the U.S. House. Decision Desk HQ has shifted its November forecast for who would win control of the U.S. Senate from Republican to a toss-up, and when asked about the possibility of Republicans losing control of the Senate, Senate Majority Leader Republican Senator John Thune replied, “I worry about that, for sure, I’m a realist, and I just think you, I don’t ever try and sugarcoat things. I think it’s a competitive environment right now”.

If Democrats do win control of the House, current House Minority Leader, Democrat Hakeem Jeffries, is expected to become Speaker of the House; he would be the first American-Black person in history to serve as Speaker. A would-be Speaker Jeffries says that, beginning on day one of Democratic control of the House, Democrats plan to “hold the crooks accountable”. And last month, even though Democrats are currently the House minority, they managed to convince 4 Republicans to vote with them to pass a non-binding House resolution, directing President Donald Trump to remove all armed forces from the Iran War.

Professing to hold crooks accountable is guaranteed publicly approved rhetoric for every politician, and passing a resolution to remove troops from an unpopular war is an easy publicly approved move to make, but in reality, what Democrat Jeffries holding crooks accountable rhetoric and the Democrat’s House resolution truly means is that, if Democrats win control of the House in November instead of Democrats FIRST getting down to the hard business of holding hearings and passing laws to lower the cost of living, lower the cost of healthcare, remove Democrat and Republican Party partisan politics from creating election districts in America, and making it easier, for every American citizen, regardless of race, religion, economic status, political affiliation, sexual orientation, or age, to have an equal opportunity to cast their vote for any person or issue they choose to vote for.

Democrats will be tempted by the easy, low-hanging political fruit to pick and will most likely choose to do 2 wrong things first if they win control of the House. Jeffries’s holding the crooks accountable on day one rhetoric foretells the first wrong thing Democrats will be tempted to do, but shouldn’t do, if they win control. What Jeffries meant is that Democrats will hold corruption hearings on the Trump family and impeachment hearings for President Trump on day one.

Impeaching President Trump, or holding Trump family and friends’ corruption hearings, is ethically, politically, and legally correct but should not be the first priority of the Democratic Party, since neither impeachment nor corruption hearings do anything to address the affordability or healthcare costs that Americans need immediate relief from. It would be easy but useless for Democrats to focus first on Trump impeachment hearings and Trump family and friends’ corruption hearings.

Because all Democrats would be doing is imitating Republicans’ recent useless and endless congressional corruption investigations into what Republicans called the “Biden crime family”. The Biden investigations were politically popular for many Republicans, but they found no corruption; and even if the investigations had found corruption, finding Biden corruption would have done nothing to relieve the ills American citizens were suffering then, just as finding current Trump corruption today will do nothing to end the ills Americans are suffering now.

Examples of hard but life beneficial investigations Democrats should focus on first, if they win control, would be to hold congressional hearings on what’s best for America’s healthcare: Obamacare or Medicare-for-all, on how the practice of gerrymandering by both Democrat and Republican politicians, to create election districts that only politicians from their same political party can win, is a threat to American democracy, or cost-of-living congressional hearings into why, 5 minutes after it’s announced that Iran has attacked an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, oil companies are allowed to immediately increase the price of gas that’s already traveled through the Strait, and is sitting at a local gas station waiting to be purchased.

Both Iran and the Strait of Hormuz are major factors in the second thing Democrats will be tempted to do, but shouldn’t do if they win control of the House. Last month, when House minority Democrats successfully passed a non-binding House resolution directing President Donald Trump to remove all armed forces from the Iran War, they telegraphed what a new majority of House Democrats will do, but shouldn’t do, if Democrats win control. There’s no question or doubt about it: Democrats are right that President Trump stupidly started a needless war of aggression with an Iran that was not an immediate threat to America or the world.

Putting aside the immorality and stupidity of President Trump’s war aggression, unfortunately, starting a war of choice with Iran enabled Iran to discover a new economic weapon that is just as powerful as dropping a nuclear bomb: shutting down the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait of Hormuz is the ultimate energy lifeline to the world. It is the only sea passage connecting the entire oil-rich Persian Gulf to the open ocean. Iran is not the only country that relies on it to export its crude oil and liquid natural gas to the rest of the world; so do Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, and Iraq.

And oil and gas aren’t the only commodities needed by the world that ship through the Strait; one-third of the world’s fertilizer supplies flow through the Strait, as well as other industrial materials like aluminum, sulfur, and helium. There are not sufficient numbers of overland pipelines that could provide alternatives for bypassing the Strait; meaning the free and unobstructed flow of ships through the Strait to transport important commodities needed by the entire world is an economic necessity.

Any restriction of ship traffic or complete closure to ship traffic instantly spikes global fuel prices because it disrupts the fuel supply chain, creating massive oil and gas shortages in the world, which then creates a spike in fuel prices all over the world, which then creates a spike in the price of all things all over the world, since the fuel that flows from the Strait is used to either produce, transport, or both, all things all over the world. Before President Trump decided to start a war of aggression for no logical reason, ships of all types from all nations were able to flow through the Strait of Hormuz at will and free of cost. It’s solely President Trump’s fault that the free flow of traffic through the Strait no longer exists, and that Iran is now using the Strait as an economic weapon that’s wreaking economic turmoil on the entire world.

The admonition that former Secretary of State Colin Powell said to former President George Bush (43) before the Iraq War: “You break it, you own it”, informally known as the Pottery Barn Rule, applies here. President Trump broke the free flow of ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, which damaged the world economy; this means America is responsible for the damage that’s being done to the world economy, which means America must repair the damage it caused to the world economy by restoring the free flow of ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

Fortunately, putting troops on the ground in Iran is not necessary to eventually restore the free flow of ship traffic, but maintaining a long-term naval blockade of Iranian oil and committing occasional bomb strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities is necessary to inflict immense economic hardship on Iran, which will eventually force Iran to negotiate for relief. A naval blockade sends a clear economic message to Iran that if Iran won’t allow the world to have the free flow of ship traffic through the Strait, which relieves the economic pressure on the world, then America will not allow the free flow of ship traffic through the Strait that relieves the economic pressure on Iran. And although the occasional bomb strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities won’t end Iran’s nuclear program, they will prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.

Neither a naval blockade nor occasional bomb strikes can happen if Democrats repeat what they did last month and pass a House resolution, directing President Trump to immediately withdraw all armed forces from the Iran War. Democrats shouldn’t allow their political opposition to President Trump to cloud their judgment. Voting for an immediate end to the blockade and occasional bomb strikes, without an end to Iran’s control of ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, and an end or diminution of Iran’s nuclear weapons program, makes Democrats just as reckless and irresponsible as President Trump was when he started his war of choice and aggression with Iran.

Instead of passing a war resolution to withdraw the troops from Iran immediately, Democrats should pass a war resolution threatening to withhold the money to fund the Iran War. Until President Trump presents a public war plan to America on how he intends to win and end the Iran War. And because the Iran War is driving up all costs for Americans, Democrats should pass a law restricting President Trump’s ability to enact tariffs, since tariffs create an additional price hike for Americans on top of the price hikes created by the war.

There are some Democrats who want to correct things by tearing down President Trump’s $600 million White House ballroom and $100 million Great Triumphal Arch projects. Stopping or tearing down both of these projects can be done with little to no negative consequences, but unfortunately, since the Iran War is not a ballroom or an arch, it can’t be torn down, and stopping it now under the current Strait of Hormuz circumstances would have severe economic consequences for America and the world; therefore, the Iran War is one insane Trump project Democrats must let stand, must help finish, and must help win!!!
